ATREE launched the Centre for Social and Environmental Innovation (CSEI) in September 2019, recognising the need to translate research into impact. CSEI builds communities of early adopters, to scale science-backed solutions. We are bringing the best, multidisciplinary minds together to solve the most pressing environmental challenges India faces today.
At CSEI, our goal is to enhance human wellbeing while sustaining the environment. This requires us to find solutions that are at once system-savvy and yet human-centered.
Our parent organisation, ATREE is a globally-renowned environmental think tank. ATREE focuses on generating rigorous research and training the next generation of environmental leaders. Recognising the need to turn research into impact on the ground, the Centre for Social and Environmental Innovation was started at ATREE in 2019 to become a bridge between institutions of power and influence, and changemakers on the ground
We are an ecosystem builder that brings together institutions of power and changemakers on the ground to find science-backed solutions to create impact at scale. These multidisciplinary groups work with citizens, consumers and businesses; the first mile.
There is no dearth of changemakers on the ground with deep roots in communities. But many efforts remain local or collapse when funding ceases. In other cases, there are unintended consequences that are not accounted for. Where we add value is by enabling them to become more effective and connecting them to larger institutions and communities to help scale their efforts.
India is the 13th most waterstressed country in the world.
By 2030, we will enable the increase of freshwater availability to 35 lakh people and help with the sustainable maintenance of 6,000 acres of urban landscapes and water bodies.
Degraded agricultural land in India spans over 10 crore acres, stagnating farmer incomes. Invasive species have degraded 3 crore acres of forests making it difficult for biodiversity and forest dependent communities to thrive.
By 2030, we will enable the improvement of 10 lakh livelihoods while restoring 20 lakh acres of degraded land.
