Water, Environment, Land and Livelihoods Labs (WELL Labs), formerly Centre for Social and Environmental Innovation (CSEI), was incubated at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) in 2019. CSEI’s purpose was to better fulfil ATREE’s vision of translating research into impact. WELL Labs builds communities of early adopters, to scale science-backed solutions. We are bringing the best, multidisciplinary minds together to solve the most pressing environmental challenges India faces today.
MORE ABOUT US
Our vision is a society that is committed to environmental conservation and sustainable, socially-just development
Our mission is to transform research into impact by designing solutions for changemakers working to create livelihoods and conserve the environment.
There is no dearth of changemakers on the ground with deep roots in communities. But many efforts remain local or collapse when funding ceases. In other cases, there are unintended consequences that are not accounted for.
Where we add value is by enabling changemakers on the ground to become more effective and connecting them to larger institutions and communities to help scale their efforts. We position ourselves as impact ecosystem builders.
We build communities of early adopters to design and scale science-backed solutions for complex social and environmental challenges. We are an ecosystem builder that brings together institutions of power and changemakers on the ground to find science-backed solutions to create impact at scale. These multidisciplinary groups work with citizens, consumers and businesses; the first mile.
